    4 Signs of Prophethood

    Signs of Prophethood
    by Yasser Gabr
    1. Prophecy of the Prophet (pbuh) from the previous books
The texts of the Quran and the Hadith proved the Prophet's (pbuh) prophecy, In the previous Prophet's books, in the Torah, and in the Gospel, in spite of these books has been changed, however there are still some of the signs of prophethood of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)
    {Those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered prophet, whom they find mentioned in their own (Scriptures);― in the Law and the Gospel;― for he commands them what is just and forbids them what is evil: he allows them as lawful what is good (and pure) and prohibits them from what is bad (and impure)…." (7:157)}
    Simple explanation:
    · The first prophecy:
Came in Isaiah 29:12(And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned.)
Narrated 'Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her):
(the mother of the faithful believers) The commencement of the Divine Inspiration to Allah's Apostle was in the form of good dreams which came true like bright day light, and then the love of seclusion was bestowed upon him. He used to go in seclusion in the cave of Hira where he used to worship (Allah alone) continuously for many days before his desire to see his family. He used to take with him the journey food for the stay and then come back to (his wife) Khadija to take his food like-wise again till suddenly the Truth descended upon him while he was in the cave of Hira. The angel came to him and asked him to read. The Prophet replied, "I do not know how to read.
The Prophet added, "The angel caught me (forcefully) and pressed me so hard that I could not bear it any more. He then released me and again asked me to read and I replied, 'I do not know how to read.' Thereupon he caught me again and pressed me a second time till I could not bear it any more. He then released me and again asked me to read but again I replied, 'I do not know how to read (or what shall I read)?' Thereupon he caught me for the third time and pressed me, and then released me and said, 'Read in the name of your Lord, who has created (all that exists) has created man from a clot. Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous." (96.1, 96.2, 96.3) Then Allah's Apostle returned with the Inspiration and with his heart beating severely. Then he went to Khadija bint Khuwailid and said, "Cover me! Cover me!" They covered him till his fear was over and after that he told her everything that had happened and said, "I fear that something may happen to me." Khadija replied, "Never! By Allah, Allah will never disgrace you. You keep good relations with your Kith and kin, help the poor and the destitute, serve your guests generously and assist the deserving calamity-afflicted ones."
    Bukhari Volume 1, Book 1, Number 3

    · Second prophecy: came in the old Testament Deuteronomy 18:18 (I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.)

    · It is known that the children of Abraham are Ishmael and Isaiah; all the Prophets came from Isaiah starting with his son Jacob (Israel), till Jesus Christ. There was no prophecy of the descendants of Ismail peace be upon them all.
    · Arabs are sons of Ishmael, Jews brothers and Isaac sons (peace and pleasing be upon them), Moses (peace be upon him) a prophet from their brothers (not from them); it's meant that he was from the descendants of Ishmael (peace be upon him).

    · Christians claim that the prophecy intended the Christ, and to respond to this claim let's review the text and study the three qualities with a simple comparison, Prophet must be:
    1. Like Moses
    2. The Word of God be in his mouth
    3. He says what God recommends him

First: who is like Moses (peace be upon him)?? Is he Isaa OR Muhammad (peace be upon them)??
    A. Moses from father and mother, as well as Muhammad, but Jesus from a mother only (peace be upon them all)
    B. Moses was the leader of his people, as well as Muhammad, but Jesus was not (peace be upon them all)
    C. Moses received complete comprehensive legislation, as well as Muhammad, but Jesus said: I did not come to abolish but to fulfill (peace be upon them all)
    D. Moses married and had children, as well as Mohammed, but Jesus did not marry (peace be upon them all)
    E. Moses regarded as human beings and a messenger, as well as Mohammed, but Jesus is not prepared by the Christian communities and human beings Messenger
    F. Moses regarded as human beings and a Messenger, as well as Muhammad, but Jesus is not considered by the Christian communities as human beings and Messenger.

Second: Who says the Word of God?
The Holy Quran came in same word from God Almighty, for example in the Quran Allah Almighty said: {Say: He is Allah the One and Only; (112:1)}, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) didn’t say: "He is Allah the One and Only", but he said: {Say: He is Allah the One and Only}. The words came as they are from God Almighty, and this interpretation of the «I make my words in his mouth».

Third: Who speaks of what God Almighty is recommending him?
{Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. (3) It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: (4) He was taught by one mighty in Power, (5) (53:3-5)}.
    {Say thou: "I am but a man like you: it is revealed to me by inspiration, that your God is One God: so stand true to Him and ask for His forgiveness." And woe to those who join gods with Allah― (41:6)}

    1. Signs of prophecy from the Islamic sources:

The previous nations knew the sincerity of the Prophets (peace be upon them) form the miracles which God Almighty gave them, from telling about the unseen which God Almighty taught them , and their prophecy implications moved to us through frequent stories.

Ibn al-Qayyim said, after mentioning the miracles of Moses and Jesus:

The prophecy evidence of the Prophet's Muhammad (pbuh) can be divided to:
    1. Telling about the unseen which God Almighty taught him
    2. Sensory miracles
    3. The Holy Quran
    4. His characteristics (attributes) (pbuh)

First: Telling the unseen, which God taught him (things occurred in his life and things occurred after his death)
    1. Informing the death of the An-Najashi in Abyssinia in the day of his death, this news at that time would take a month to spread and be known. Narrated Abu Huraira: "Allah's Apostle informed (the people) about the death of An-Najashi on the very day he died. He went towards the Musalla (praying place) and the people stood behind him in rows. He said four Takbirs (i.e. offered the Funeral prayer). " Bukhari Volume 2, Book 23, Number 337

    2. Predicting the victory of Badr, while Muslims were suffering from persecution in Mecca; In the middle of the scourge, God Almighty descended upon the Prophet: {Or do they say: "We acting together can defend ourselves"? (44) Soon will their multitude be put to flight, and they will show their backs. (45)} Al-Qamar
    Tafseer the verse
    Tafsir al-Jalalayn
Or do they, the disbelievers of Quraysh, say: ‘We are a host that will be helped to victory’?, against Muhammad (s)? When Abū Jahl, on the day of Badr, said: ‘We are a host that will be helped to victory’, the following was revealed:
    {Soon will their multitude be put to flight, and they will show their backs. (54:45)}
    Tafsir al-Jalalayn
The host will [truly] be routed and turn its back [to flee], and so they were defeated at Badr and God’s Messenger (s) was granted victory over them.
The verse was revealed before the Hijrah year and was talking about defeating the infidels in the battle of Badr.
Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: The Prophet , while in a tent (on the day of the battle of Badr) said, "O Allah! I ask you the fulfillment of Your Covenant and Promise. O Allah! If You wish (to destroy the believers) You will never be worshipped after today." Abu Bakr caught him by the hand and said, "This is sufficient, O Allah's Apostle! You have asked Allah pressingly." The Prophet was clad in his armor at that time. He went out, saying to me: "There multitude will be put to flight and they will show their backs. Nay, but the Hour is their appointed time (for their full recompense) and that Hour will be more grievous and more bitter (than their worldly failure)." (54.45-46) Khalid said that was on the day of the battle of Badr. Bukhari Volume 4, Book 52, Number 164

The narrator said: Then the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: This is the place where so and so would be killed. He placed his hand on the earth (saying) here and here; (and) none of them fell away from the place which the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) had indicated by placing his hand on the earth. Muslim Book 19, Number 4394
    3. Predicting that Omar, Othman and Ali (may Allah be pleased with them) will be martyrsit was reported by Abu Huraira that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) was on the mountain of Hira' that it stirred; thereupon Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: Hira! be calm, for there is none upon you but a Prophet, a Siddiq, a Shahid, and there were upon it Allah's Prophet (may peace be upon him), Abu Bakr, 'Umar, Uthman, 'Ali, Talha, Zubair, Sa'd b. Abi Waqqas (Allah be pleased witli them). Muslim Book 31, Number 5943
The Prophet (peace be upon him) testified for himself the prophecy and testified for abu Bakr the Siddiq, and he (peace be upon him) predicted for Uthman, Ali, Umar, Talha and Zubair of becoming martyrs. And this from the unseen which no one knows about except Allah the Almighty.
Also the Prophet (peace be upon him) told Uthman about his death as martyr. Cam in Bukhari Narrated Abu Musa Al-Ashari: Somebody came and moved the door. I asked "Who is it?" He replied, "Uthman bin Affan." I asked him to wait and went to the Prophet and informed him. He said, "Admit him, and give him the glad tidings of entering Paradise, I asked him to wait and went to the Prophet and informed him. He said, "Adult him, and give him the glad tidings of entering Paradise after a calamity that will befall him." So I went up to him and said to him, "Come in; Allah's Apostle gives you the glad tidings of entering Paradise after a calamity that will befall you. "Uthman then came in and found that the built edge of the well was occupied, so he sat opposite to the Prophet on the other side. Said bin Al-Musaiyab said, "I interpret this (narration) in terms of their graves." Bukhari Volume 5, Book 57, Number 23

    4. The Prophet (peace be upon him) predicted the murdering of Ammar bin Yaser, 'Ikrima narrated Ibn 'Abbas said to me and to his son 'Ali, "Go to Abu Sa'id and listen to what he narrates." So we went and found him in a garden looking after it. He picked up his Rida', wore it and sat down and started narrating till the topic of the construction of the mosque reached. He said, "We were carrying one adobe at a time while 'Ammar was carrying two. The Prophet saw him and started removing the dust from his body and said, "May Allah be Merciful to 'Ammar. He will be inviting them (i.e. his murderers, the rebellious group) to Paradise and they will invite him to Hell-fire." 'Ammar said, "I seek refuge with Allah from affliction." Bukhari Volume 1, Book 8, Number 438. Ammar was killed in Ali’s army in the 37 Hijri.

    5. The Prophet (peace be upon him) predicted the conquest of Yemen, Syria and Iraq. It was narrated by Abu Zuhair that he heard Allah's Apostle saying, "Yemen will be conquered and some people will migrate (from Medina) and will urge their families, and those who will obey them to migrate (to Yemen) although Medina will be better for them; if they but knew. Sham will also be conquered and some people will migrate (from Medina) and will urge their families and those who will obey them, to migrate (to Sham) although Medina will be better for them; if they but knew. 'Iraq will be conquered and some people will migrate (from Medina) and will urge their families and those who will obey them to migrate (to 'Iraq) although Medina will be better for them; if they but knew." Bukhari Volume 3, Book 30, Number 99
    Nawawi
    6. The Prophet (peace be upon him) predicted the conquest of Fares. It was narrated by Jabir b. Samura: I heard Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) (as sayingt There would lie open for a group of Muslims, or for a group of believers, the treasures of the family of Kisra which would be in the whit (palace). In a version of Qutaiba there is definitely the word "Muslim" Muslim Book 41, Number 6977
When the Prophet (peace be upon him) told about conquering Egypt he asked the Muslims to treat Egyptians kindly for the sake of Hajer the mother of Ismail, it was narrated by Abu Dharr that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: You would soon conquer Egypt and that is a land which is known (as the land of al-qirat). So when you conquer it, treat its inhabitants well. For there lies upon you the responsibility because of blood-tie or relationship of marriage (with them). And when you see two persons falling into dispute amongst themselves for the space of a brick, than get out of that. Muslim Book 31, Number 6174.

    7. The Prophet (peace be upon him) predicted that his uncle Abu Lahab and his wife will die as infidels as came in the Quran Allah almighty says: {Perish the hands of the Father of Flame! Perish he! (1) No profit to him from all his wealth, and all his gains! (2) Burnt soon will he be in a Fire of blazing Flame! (3) His wife shall carry the (crackling) wood ―as fuel!― (4) A twisted rope of palm-leaf fibre round her (own) neck! (5)} AL-Massadd. How did the Prophet (peace be upon him) know if Allah didn’t tell him??!
    Sheikh al-Shaarawi said:
    8. Narrated Sulaiman bin Surd: On the day of Al-Ahzab (i.e. clans) the Prophet said, (After this battle) we will go to attack them (i.e. the infidels) and they will not come to attack us." Bukhari Volume 5, Book 59, Number 435
And so it was, as the Al-Ahzab battle was the last battle with Quraish in their war with the Prophet (peace be upon him), then the Muslims invaded Mecca and conquest it with the help of Allah.
    9. The Prophet (peace be upon him) predicted that the Persians will be defeated by the Romansas came in the Quran Allah almighty says: {The Roman Empire has been defeated― (2) In a land close by; but they, (even) after (this) defeat of theirs, will soon be victorious (3) Within a few years. With Allah is the Decision, in the Past and in the Future: on that Day shall the Believers rejoice― (4)} Al-Room
This weird prophecy was spreading among Quraish which was against their desires towards Persians; their brothers in Idolatry. While the Muslims liked the Roman’s victory cause they are from the book, and the news cheered them.
Sayyidina Ibn Abbas explained the words of Allah: “Alif Laam Mim. The Romans have been defeated in the land.” (80:1-2) He said: The idolaters loved that the Persians should gain victory over Rome because they and the Persians were idolaters. The Muslims loved that the Romans should become victorious over the Persians because they were People of the Book. They mentioned it to Abu Bakr (RA) who mentioned it to Allah’s Messenger. He said ‘They will soon be victorious.” Abu Bakr mentioned this to the idolaters and they said, “Cause between us and them a term. If we win during that time then for us is this-and-that and if you gain victory then for you is this-and that.” Then he fixed the times as five years; but it did not transpire, so he mentioned that to the Prophet). He said, ‘Why did you not fix a longer period”? The narrator supposed that he put it at ten years. And Sa’eed said that (bitl’) is a number less than ten Then Rome emerged victorious over Persia. This is why Allah said; "Alif Laam Mim. The Romans have been defeated in the land close by, and after (this) defeat of theirs, they will soon be victorious, within a few years. To Allah belongs the command before and after and on that day the Believers will rejoice, in Allah's help. (30: 1-5) Sufyan said, “I heard that the Romans emerged victorious on the day of Badr.” [Ahmed 2495, Bukhari 115]
    10. The Prophet (peace be upon him said) revealed to us from the unseen about Um-Haram, it was Narrated by Khalid bin Madan that 'Umair bin Al-Aswad Al-Anasi told him that he went to 'Ubada bin As-Samit while he was staying in his house at the sea-shore of Hims with (his wife) Um Haram. 'Umair said. Um Haram informed us that she heard the Prophet saying, "Paradise is granted to the first batch of my followers who will undertake a naval expedition." Um Haram added, I said, 'O Allah's Apostle! Will I be amongst them?' He replied, 'You are amongst them.' The Prophet then said, 'The first army amongst' my followers who will invade Caesar's City will be forgiven their sins.' I asked, 'Will I be one of them, O Allah's Apostle?' He replied in the negative." Bukhari Volume 4, Book 52, Number 175
